Our Story Fynlo is about giving freelancers, entrepreneurs, contractors and micro-businesses an essential tool to achieve financial freedom. We believe accounting systems should be free; they are an essential software to every person on Earth that needs to do their taxes.
Problem We Faced As a community of entrepreneurs, freelancers, designers, solopreneurs, and contractors, we came together to tackle a challenge that many of us have faced on our journey to financial freedom: managing our finances. With little to no accounting knowledge and just a basic understanding of invoices and expenses, we found ourselves overwhelmed when it came time to do our taxes and maintain sound financial records.
We often relied on Excel or free software littered with frustrating advertisements, forcing us to jump through hoops just to make things work. None of us had a passion for accounting, but we recognized it as a necessary part of our lives.
That’s when we realized we could create something special. We envision an accounting software that would be free forever, designed specifically for the 196 million micro-businesses, freelancers, designers, contractors, and entrepreneurs out there. Together, we can simplify the financial journey for everyone, ensuring that managing finances is not just a task, but a step toward achieving our dreams.
The Beginning The beginning was fuzzy for us, we knew we needed to do this, but we found out a full double-entry accounting system was not an easy feat to achieve. It was not an overnight project. In 2018, Vince and Arthur decided to start building this software at their own pace. During this time, there was a lot of sweat and tears; we just didn’t get it; we didn’t understand “Accounting speak”. When we showed a simple version of the software to Accountants, all they said was “it was rubbish” and didn’t meet reporting standards. So, we kept going back to the drawing board. We checked out millions of other accounting software, and they all seemed to be slightly different. After a few years of stress and constant tweaking, the system started coming together, it was by no means perfect and still has a long way to go. But finally in 2024, our hodgepodge group of solopreneurs – Vince, Arthur, Thomas, Ailene, Ramil, John, Hannah, Mark, Jet, Josh and Jacqueline decided it was ready to go into Beta stage. Since we were still a very small team with limited resources, we had to limit the number of users that could signup.
